Gun Safe Lighting
Lighting can come in many different forms, here are some common ways that gun safe owners choose to add lighting to their safes. In many instances, some will have a combination of different ways to ensure sufficient lighting for each area of their safe.
LED Push Lights
Push lights are commonly used in cabinet and closet spaces, but can also be used to light up the smaller compartments of your gun safe. These types of lights are often battery operating and are turned on and off by a push onto its exterior. These are great because they are meant to be moved from one location to another, which allows you to easily figure out the optimal place to put them, especially if you opt for the type with the swivel puck. And since they are so inexpensive you can get a pack of 3 or 6 and illuminate different areas of your safe.
Motion Sensor LED Lights
Battery operated LED lights are becoming more and more popular because they are cheap, can be easliy attached using velcro or some other sticky adhesive, and they work very well. They have motion sensors that turn on when motion is detected and turns off after a certain length of time when motion is not detected. These types of lights can be found at any hardware store and come in a wide range of brightness and motion sensitivity.
Rope Lights
Rope lights are a popular way to illuminate the interior of a gun safe. The lights are encased in a flexible rope that can be attached along the sides of the interior of your safe. These types of lights can be found in the lighting or Christmas section of a hardware or home store. They come in a variety of colors including white and blue and not just the ordinary soft yellow, and can come with either LED or incandescent lights.
Fluorescent Lighting Kit or Tube Light
Many home and gun accessory stores will carry a fluorescent lighting kit. These kits usually require an electric cord and contain at least two or three long fluorescent bulbs and bulb covers that can be fastened to top, bottom, or sides of your safe. Some also include a jamb switch that can be positioned so that the lights turn on and off with the opening and closing of the safe doors, much like a refrigerator. These types of specialty lighting kits cost in the $100 to $200 range. Some gun safe owners go with the "do-it-yourself" approach by installing standard multi-purpose fluorescent tube lights.
