Bighorn & Rhino Gun Safes

Bighorn Safes and Rhino Safes are the two lines produced by Rhino Metals, a manufacturing company located in Caldwell, Idaho that also manufactures original parts for companies across a wide variety of industries.

These two lines consist almost exclusively of gun safes, with a heavy concentration on security and fire protection. They also produce gun safe accessories, including dehumidifiers, gun sleeves, and pistol holders, to help keep your guns protected and organized.

More specifically, their product line is broken down into three categories: Bighorn, Bighorn Classic, and Rhino. Bighorn Safes are less expensive because they are made overseas and imported, while Rhino Safes are built to order one safe at a time here in the United States. That being said, each line has their own features and benefits, let's see what they are.

Bighorn Gun Safes

What they don't have in frills they make up for in security and fire protection. Their concentrated focus has allowed them to produce a high quality product for a reasonable price, making them one of the best values on the market. They come standard with 10 gauge steel, which is thicker than a lot of other safes that use 12 or 14 gauge.

Since the steel body is incased within the walls of the safe you can get a clearer idea by how much the safe weighs. With everything else being equal, a heavier safe probably has a thicker steel body, making it much more difficult to drill. They also come standard with a 1200 degree, 70 minute fire rating, which is higher than gun safes in a comparable price range and size.

Bighorn Classic Gun Safes

Bighorn Classic is also a very sturdy safe, with the primary difference being that they offer slightly less fire protection.

Instead of the standard 1200 degree, 70 minute protection, the Classic series ranges from 1200 degree, 30 minute to 1200 degree, 60 minute fire protection, depending on the model.

This is still respectable and will definitely help protect your valuables in the event of a house fire, but for the price it becomes a very good deal.

Rhino Gun Safes

Rhino Safes are big and heavy, and offer a ton of burglary and fire protection. With such features as 1200 degree, 2.5 hour fire protection, patented RhinoPlate Drill-Proof Armor, and patented Drill-Proof Crankshaft Design, you know they've got their bases covered.

As far as gun safes go, Bighorn and Rhino both have a lot to offer. If you'd like to save some cash, enjoy quality protection, and don't mind a safe with minimal frills, then you should definitely consider a Bighorn. If you have a little extra cash to spend and would like your safe to have superior burglary and fire protection and be made in the U.S.A, then a Rhino safe would definitely make for a sound investment.
